There is a little slice of heaven right here in Central Virginia. Today, we’re exploring the incredible Amelia Wildlife Management Area, a sprawling 2,200-acre paradise that’s just waiting for you to discover if you’re a hunter, fisher, or just someone who loves the great outdoors, this is something special for you in Amelia.
Originally farmland, this area is not just about wide-open spaces; it also includes 175 acres of stunning bottomland hardwoods and beaver swamps along the serene Appomattox River. Picture this: a place where the water whispers and wildlife roams free—this land is truly a hunter’s dream.
For those with a passion for hunting, Amelia Wildlife Management is the go-to spot. From rabbit and quail to dove, deer, and turkey, not to mention squirrel hunting in the hardwood stands, there’s no shortage of excitement.
Amelia Wildlife Lake
And, if you’re into fishing, get ready! The 100 acre Amelia Lake and 4.5-acre Saunders Pond offer over a hundred acres of fishing bliss where you can reel in largemouth bass, crappie, channel catfish, and a spectrum of sunfish. And let’s not forget the anglers casting their lines in the Appomattox River, thriving with bass and sunfish.
And for our shooting enthusiasts, Amelia boasts two fantastic ranges. Whether you’re sighting in your rifle or enjoying some clay bird shooting, these ranges are equipped for both novices and experts. With no reservations required, you can bring your targets and practice your shot at distances up to 100 yards. Remember, if you’re 17 or older and don’t have a valid Virginia hunting, freshwater fishing, trapping license, or a current boating license, you’ll need an Access Permit to enjoy these facilities.
